That Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes abet the circulation of black money, counterfeit currency and corruption is imaginary. That all illegal transactions will end with a ban on certain denominations is a moot point. No doubt the ban will impact the common man as they have to choose between single-hundreds and Rs 2,000 notes. If the objective is to root out corrupt practices, the executive needs to strengthen its governance.
