This is with reference to the editorial, Pope’s noble gesture (March 27). Acknowledging the sexual exploitation of vulnerable children within the confines of the Vatican or other churches, leading a frugal life, calling for normalisation of the frozen relationship between the US and Cuba, taking up cudgels on behalf of the migrants by condemning the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his anti-immigration campaign, displaying his concern for the poor, displaced, refugees, homeless and the global environment threatened by “modernity” and “development”, and now washing the feet of refugees of all religious hues, Pope Francis is a unique personality and is acting as the conscience of the world. If we try to emulate him even a bit, follow his advice and work for the welfare of the downtrodden, the world and society will indeed become much better.
