One of the four dalit victims who were thrashed by a group of “gau rakshaks” in Una, Gujarat, was re-admitted to hospital hours before Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state. While Ramesh Sarvaiya said he felt a pain in his thighs, doctors allege that he was admitted under “political pressure”. Stage-managing victims for a political visit is wrong. It takes attention away from the issue and focuses it instead on politicians’ inconsequential visits.
