Do you think that humans have lost their connections with each other and it is growing with time? Have we as humans become more isolated and use more e-portals to connect and express our real emotions. With this thought, a solo art exhibition by the name ‘Colour me colour you’ recently took place in Delhi at India Habitat Centre.

“Through the work I wanted people to believe in humanity and to trust relationships and get closer to the people they love and feel touched deeply so that they can reconnect with their true selves,” says Anubha Agarwal the artists. She also adds and continues, “We are not alone in our journey and that we are all one and the same and together.”

The artwork in the exhibition is displayed through a woman’s eye as they are biologically complex.

On asking the reason behind the title ‘Colour me colour you’, the artist explains, “I wanted the viewer to connect to the art in some way and see a little bit of themselves. I truly believe that human connection is slowly getting lost. The name Colour me colour you is a little bit of me and a little bit of you in everything and we are not alone in fact together in this world.”

Human emotion is not only complex; it is also very unpredictable, is has a significant impact on our lives. Anubha wanted to bring out the depth of emotion without any inhibitions or fear that’s why she did not use any props or accessories in the paintings so that the viewers are able to look within and not form any preconceived notion or judgement about the women displayed in the exhibition.

In this exhibit the artist has also used acrylic colours to emote the innumerable and uncountable emotions, soulful expressions and the beauty, divinity and rawness of a woman as she is deep, mature, playful and courageous.

Talking about the challenges Agarwal faces she replies, “It was all an ethereal experience and every canvas was self-discovery. Being a novice in the field of art, the part I struggled with was technique. I was inspired by the work of artists, photographers and veterans in the art world, which helped me in navigating through various complexities. However, at the same time, I feel that it was a blessing in some ways, as I was not limited to the right or wrong way of doing things and my own growth surprised me.”

In this exhibit the artist has showcased 21 canvasses, all having a different style and posture and highlighting a different emotion. Happy, passionate, engulfed, distraught, bold, pensive, evocative are all emotions that can be seen in the work displayed which all tell a different story in a person’s life at some point or the other.
