Centuries worth of Indian poetry translated to Italian
3000 years of Indian poetry translated into Italian.
Rome: The Italian edition of '100 Great Indian Poems', edited by India's Ambassador to Madagascar and Comoros Abhay Kumar, was published by Edizioni Efesto here.
Titled '100 Grandi Poesie Indiane' in Italian, the book includes poems from 28 languages spanning over three thousand years of Indian poetry.
In October last year, its Spanish edition titled 'Cien Grandes Poemas de la India' was launched at National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City and at Casa Del Libros in Monterrey, Mexico. Its Portuguese edition, titled '100 Grandes Poemas da India', was published by the University of Sao Paulo in February 2018.
On the publication of the anthology, Kumar said that the Italian edition of the book would act as a literary bridge between India, Italy and Europe, along with its Portuguese and Spanish editions published earlier.
A number of a well-known Italian poet-translators have translated these poems into Italian. They include Luca Benassi, Saverio Bafaro, Caterina Davinio, Monica Guerra Alessandra Carnovale, Chiara Borghi, Ivano Mugnaini, Tiziana Colusso, Laura Corraducci and Simone Zafferani.
These poems have also been translated into Nepali and Russian. The Nepali edition of the anthology is slated to be published soon.
