Opt for solid colours when pulling off the ruffled trouser trend ala blogger and designer Priyanka Vinod.

Shying away from taking flamboyant to the streets is a thing of the past. Young folk now are ready to go all out, with some ‘ruffles’ of course! Yes, ruffled trousers are back in vogue, and it’s about time you slay the retro trend with a dash of verve. We get experts from the fashion fraternity to give us a lowdown on the dos and don’ts to stay ahead of the fashion curve.

“Ruffled trousers aren’t the easiest look to pull off as they accentuate your hips, so might not be flattering for all body types. Also consider proportions and balance the top half with a simple, lean silhouette,” opines designer Sanchita Ajjampur, who adds, “Instead of heels, wear sneakers or flats for a casual, urban look. Keep accessorising to the minimum in order to avoid your outfit from getting too busy or cluttered.”

Distressed denim and clothes frayed strategically are another hit.

Enthusing how the ‘70s trend is seeing a renaissance, designer Priyanka Vinod adds, “The ruffled trousers trend has come back with a bang – perhaps with a more trendy and chic touch. I personally love them, as they’re so different and eye catchy. But, as a rule, always opt for solids hues. Deeper hues like navy, marsala and the like are trending like never before. Team it up with a snug fit v neck blouse. A white top paired with a maroon ruffled trouser is one of the easiest ways to exude a striking appeal. Pair it with block heels for a dressier vibe.”

Highlighting the importance of picking tops of the right length while sporting the style, Mayank Modi concludes by stating, “When sporting ruffled trousers, the length of the top should not exceed the thigh. Ruffled trousers are best worn with fitted t-shirts.

Sonam Kapoor sports a dress in relaxed silhouette that’s now trending.

Even classic cut shirts with a slight deviation in the pattern gives out a neat appearance. This gives out an appearance of length to the body and also makes you look slimmer. Steer clear of loose tops or extra large shirts. If you’re headed to a party, you team a tube top and a fitted jacket with ruffled trousers for an instant jazz up.”
