Working out and participating in sporting activities is totally awesome but doing the same with style and sass is a whole new level of awesomeness. Who says athletes can’t flaunt their attires? Here are a few fashion experts that will prove you otherwise.

Reshma Kunhi a fashion designer believes athleisure has always been a favourite trend. She says, “Athleisure is one of the easiest and most versatile trends. It is something which will never go out of style. The athleisure trend was started in 1970 when fitness became popular. Athletic + Leisure wear together is Athleisure”

She adds, “Gym wear is no more just a workout clothes. It’s becoming an integral part of everyone’s wardrobe. With more and more people preferring comfortable clothing, this trend will last. Clothes designed for workouts now can be worn as casual wear, at the workplace and can even be carried as party wear. Its the trend of the millennium”.

Giving us an insight into what’s new in the trend is Laxmi Krishna, a famous celebrity fashion designer for Sandalwood. She says, “Super high raise leggings, see through leggings, exercise dresses are now making dreams come true for gals who love athleisure as much as they love pretty dresses. You can also try running pants which are sleek, functional for your outdoor runs or morning hikes. It keep you looking modern and stylish.  They are also lightweight, comfortable and great for short or long distance traveling. Just pair the pants with a cute tank top.”

Speaking about the appropriate occasions and places you can wear athleisure to, Laxmi says, “It’s always imperative to wear clothes to the appropriate place and in this case it would be to the gym of course. You can also wear them to dance classes, for treks, marathons and it can be worn at concept based parties and gatherings but again that is at your own quirky risk.”

Prachitha Devi, a fashion designer gives us a few style tips for the look . She says, “For a casual look go for loose tees with a print, pair it up with your jeans and collate the look with bulky sneakers. If you want to try this look for a party, parallel side stripped  track pants with side slits and a crop top with stilettos and a sleek baguette bag is perfect. I would say style the look as per your comfort and the occasion you want to go for. For a trend which screams comfort, all you would need is a nice chunky big dial watch and if you want to dress it up, pair it up with hoop earrings. Stick to a silhouette that suits your body frame or else you might end up looking like a package. Since it’s summer, I suggest you stick to breathable clothes.”

Reshma says it’s always trendy when you quirk up the look and bring out your subtle-wild side. She says, “People will normally suggest a western look for athleisure, but I prefer the fusion way. You can wear a long cotton printed skirt with a tank top with embroidery detailing on neckline, or wear a ankle length synthetic legging with a half draped Lycra saree and a blouse. Leggings over kurtis are sported everywhere these days. A printed  sports bra worn as a blouse with a saree or a plain skirt will look nice.”

Giving us a few more ways you can style the looks she says, “Sportswear in metallic hues is just apt if you want to carry it for a party.  Black leggings or jeggings can be worn with a tank top and a leather jacket, short dresses can be worn with metallic sneakers, a tank top in a metallic hue over pants is a perfect party look. Sports bra with jegging can be worn with an overcoat or a long floor length shrug. Halter and criss cross sport bras can be worn with short skirts and sneakers.”

Speaking about the dos and don’ts, Laxmi says, “When you go to the gym, it’s important to wear clothes that are breathable and flexible. It’s good to look good but remember that fitness and safety are your foremost concerns. Ill-fitting clothing can cause itchy skin, rashes, or more serious injuries. Also, be mindful that your clothes may shift when you’re working out. Wear clothing that will facilitate a solid workout.”

She adds, “Wear something flexible, with an elastic waistband. You should be able to perform a full range of leg workouts while you’re wearing the bottoms. The bottoms that you wear also depend on the effect that you’re going for: tight and skin-showing clothing can help you show off, and baggier, more flowing garments might help you blend in. I’d say a big no makeup is best but still want to go for it no applying harsh makeup products. No lipstick, lipgloss might help instead and tying up your hair is advisable. Hairstyles like braids is recommended”
