Mira Rajput's short suit is a perfect day-to-night look!

You can never expect stark differences in seasonal dressing in India, because we don’t gravitate between extreme temperatures. As we bid adieu to the warmest months of the year, let us give thanks that Summer dressing has transcended beyond skimpy clothing, and I didn’t have to have my “Honey, you’re not at Coachella” face on all the time. Gem tones replaced typical bright hues and light knits were preferred even in the balmier months. What a time to be alive! Now August and September are upon us, and together they are known for being a neither here, nor there time of the year in the subcontinent. Is it Autumn? Is it Fall? Call it what you please, but use the time wisely to have fun with light layering, solid colours and new silhouettes.

Here are five easy looks for you to try out, that I promise don’t have anything to do with the dad sneakers trend we are seeing too much of:

Short Suit: I’ve been obsessed with the short suit trend on men, ever since LeBron James  rocked up to the NBA Finals in one back in June. The NBA, being a pinnacle of fashion, saw several other star follow suit shortly after on the red carpet. But a short suit looks fantastic on women too, as proven by Taylor Swift and Mira Rajput Kapoor. Fashion content creator and travel specialist Maia Sethna says the suit has her vote for being the perfect day-to-night look. “I would wear a chic blazer with shorts for attending events during the day, and carry the look into the night with the right accessories.” Pro-tip: The shorts should be high-waisted and hang loosely around the thighs.

White Boots: Step out of your comfort zone a little and future-proof your shoe-game. As someone who lives in black boots, I’m excited to make white boots my new BFF because I’m  surprised at how many outfits they pair well with! Boho dresses, all black looks, midi skirts, light wash denim… and much more! Treat white boots as you would white sneakers when you’re styling them and you’ve got yourself the perfect transitional look. Pro-tip: The smaller the heel, the better. Chunky heels are the most comfortable. Avoid suede.

Cropped Denim Jackets: Throw a cropped denim jacket in a fun pattern or colour and a size larger than your usual, over a singlet or crop top, to show a little less skin but exude a lot more spunk. Pair it with high-waisted bottoms of a similar shade for a look that teams as well with sneakers as it does with heels. Blogger and owner of a fashion label, Priyanka Vinod definitely wants to double her denim usage this month, “You can’t really wear coats here, so a denim jacket will be my go-to when it comes to layering.” Pro-tip: Match your top with statement shoes like Gigi Hadid has for an instant head-turning look.

Hunter green is a must have colour in your wardrobe now.

Hunter Green: This season you should be eating your greens and wearing them too. Hunter green in particular; this colour isn’t given enough credit for its ability to go well with everything from hard to soft colours, and prints too. Ditch the camo and take a cue from Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2018 collection by going green head to toe or mixing it up with hints of leather, which is always relevant in the fall.

Stripes: Stripes surpass any seasonal trend restrictions and horizontal stripes have the magic ability to make you appear leaner, and is flattering for most body types. Whether it’s a fitted or loose silhouette, just ensure that the stripes are not very broad. If you’ve ever wanted to experiment with stripes on stripes, now is the time. Pro-tip: Wear opposite silhouettes; looser tops with tight bottoms, and vice versa. Mix different sized stripes and textures to look less jailbird, more chic.
