Ace textile-expert Gaurang Shah created a vision of ethereal beauty on the runway with his collection Muslin on Day 5 of Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort. The show opened with a shayari by Iqbal Pattani, whose voice worked as the background for the models on the ramp.

His latest collection comprised of over 40 ensembles in white, with gold and silver weaves. This is a departure from his previous collections, where the designer generously peppered bright colours like like bright fuchsia, reds, and greens onto his works. Playing with white tones on sheer flowing fabrics, as well as jamdani weaves and chikankari work, Gaurang used the finest khadi, kota and organza, alongside yarns like muga and silk. The weaves were further transformed into matchless beauties with tonal Parsi gara style and chikankari  embroidery.

Gaurang’s  repertoire  includes saris, slim kurtas, fluid palazzos, anarkalis, full circle lehengas, intricately embroidered cholis and blouses. Speaking at the post-show event, Gaurang said, “This is our heritage and tradition. Everyone knows me for my colours and every show has a blast of colours, but this time I decided on white. My whole collection was prepared in two months. I have tried to create something very unusual for this summer,” he shared.

Bringing the show to a beautiful end was the gorgeous Tabu, who walked wearing a magnificent wide gold-bordered anarkali over a swirling lehenga, teamed with an ornate gold dupatta. “It is always a treat to wear Gaurang’s clothes. He is my neighbour in Hyderabad. We have old-connections and whenever I need something easy, simple, luxurious and comfortable I know I have to go to him. Gaurang has a very unique combination in his clothes of comfort and glamour together. The work he does with the weavers is amazing — he engages weavers from all over the country. We are really lucky to have Gaurang as he has made a huge contribution in the revival of weaves and Indian fabrics in India,” Tabu emphasised at the press conference.
