Red carpet trend alert: Sneakers over high heels
Celebrities who chose comfort over sky-high heels.
New Delhi: Idolised for their impeccable fashion sense, celebrities throughout the world do all that takes to look their stylish best.
No matter how flawless and larger than the life they seem, even stars are not immune to pain and that's what makes them relatable. A few stars have shunned the fashion norms and chosen comfort over the rules that dictate fashion.
Latest to join the spree of celebrities to give up stilettos for the comfort of sneakers is American tennis player Serena Williams. She aced her fashion game and added her own sporty twist to the 2019 Met Gala. She wore a custom neon yellow strong-shouldered Versace gown with pink feathery and leaf applique throughout that features a cascading train flowing behind her.
She accessorised her looks with matching yellow sneakers from Virgil Abloh, a glitzy diamond watch, emerald green rings and drop earrings by de Grisogono. Sneakers are often the choice of her footwear at big events, including Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding as well as her own, reported E! News.
Another celebrity who was seen opting for sneakers at Met Gala 2019 is Alexander Wang, the American fashion designer. He chose a super casual look for the night. Wang's nonchalance look included shorts paired with sneakers on the red carpet.
Even B-town celebrities are known to embrace comfy sneakers over heels. Deepika Padukone ditched her stunning stilettos for a comfortable pair of sneakers during her Mumbai reception party in November last year.
Moreover, it is not an uncommon sight to see celebrities walk barefoot at high-profile events. Last year, 'Twilight' actress Kristen Stewart, took off her black Christian Louboutin pumps and walked up the staircase barefoot with pumps in her hand.
Actress Daisy May Cooper too went to the stage barefoot to accept her award during British Academy of Television Awards in London.
