Rise and shoe'ne

Fresh off the runways, these shoe trends are all you need to know to update your wardrobe this year.

Dress up your shoe closet with platform heels and block heels that are back with a bang this year.

Of course, you could continue wearing those white keds that have faithfully carried you through the mix that was 2016. Or, you could take a little inspiration from the runways, and find your existing shoes some new friends this year.

Anushka Sharma gives 2017’s top shoe trend, the sliders, a gorgeous go.

From Alexander McQueen, Balmain and Dolce and Gabbana, if we have learnt anything from the fashion months, it’s this – “Platform heels in all heights and shapes are back big time,” says celebrity stylist and designer Shachina Heggar. Although fashion peeps might find the sartorial stilettos more appealing, if you’re looking at comfort, say hello to these classics. “Block heels will be really big this year,” predicts  blogger Princy Mascarenhas. “I’d style them with everything – jumpsuits, plaid midi skirts or skater dresses,” she adds. If you don’t mind being a little experimental, turn to its close cousin, flatforms! This thick-soled version has been giving designers like Versace and Gucci the ‘height’ with variations in wood, leather and certain sporty iterations as well.

Bengaluru model Krithika Babu rocks tie up flats that will continue to rule runways this year.

Another favourite this season is the kitten heel. Designers have been rolling out sleek versions of this lady like staple. You can pair it with a pencil skirt and a white button-down for a wildly feminine allure. Black patent leather kitten heels are the perfect LBD shoe for cocktails. They can also be paired with cigarette pants, a white tee and a draped cardigan too.

The low heel movement is back this year with the Audrey Hepburn-approved kitten heel leading the charge.

According to industry insiders, the 2017’s shoe trends will also include everything from wearing sheer tights with strappy sandals to summer sliders, mules and slippers with oriental influences. Sporty much? Rejoice. Some shoes are now coming with built in socks and athletic inspired boots are big! “A slight variation to the sneaker trend, now everything from iron on patches, pom-poms, tassles and paints are moving on to sporty shoes. It is been seen a lot more on formal attire as well,” opines city designer Aditi Lal.

Tie up heels are in. Add to that shoes with Oriental influences, and you’ve got yourself a winner pair in 2017.

If you are one for elegance and don’t mind putting emphasis on your ankles, tie ups should be your new best friend. From ruffles at Saint Laurent to buckles at Attico, it’s time to let them wrap around you.  “Strappy tie-up heels come in everything from leather to lace, jeans and ruffles. If you want to opt for flats, they are available in that too,” adds Shachina.  It’s all about putting the best foot forward this season.
