Mellow yellow
Ladies, it's time to add sunshine to your wardrobe with a generous sprinkling of happy and vibrant yellow in its varying shades and shine.
Summer always calls for a good, vibrant dose of yellow. But as a colour for women's clothing, it is more challenging than pink, by virtue of its relative androgyny. And add to that — a global reputation for being terrifyingly difficult to wear. Yes, the shade can be sharp and acidic but also optimistic and simple.
Design gurus share that one should look for lemon or primrose, not yellow to start off. The lighter, livelier shades are much easier to wear than the heavier, brighter yellows.
“Primrose yellow is one of ‘it’ colours of the SS17 season. Wearing lemon yellow or primrose yellow is an easy way to win at summer fashion because the thing about any shade of yellow is that everyone likes looking at it but only a few actually wear it,” designer duo Meher and Riddhima assert. “All in all, yellow is a happy colour, so show you're glad to be wearing it too! Be brave. This bright sunshine or lemon, mustard shade ruled all major spring showcases around the world. You can try it in the form of beading or embellishment, which will show off your playful side, and can be converted into a standout summer look too. However you may wish to use this colour, we'd just say get ready to accept compliments with a sunny smile,” they add.
Rather than getting caught up with complexion and colour harmony, designer Aashima Behl recommends working on how to introduce yellow into outfits while looking comfortable. “Yes, we all know yellow is tricky. And yellow, light or dark requires a strong colour to stand up against. One of the failsafe ways of pairing it will be with bold red and blue to create a wonderfully retro look. I’d suggest that you avoid block-coloured separates and instead, pick one t-shirt or jumper boasting a simple pattern with the three colours in. Another effortless way to show that you are au fait with fashion’s current colour lust is by picking one statement accessory and flaunting it all season. A yellow handbag or even a bag charm attached to your current tote, is a cheering nod to the sunny shade, while a pair of killer heels would show you mean business. If you have chosen a lovely shade of lemon or a barely-there yellow then paired with cream and whites. It will give you a chic antique feel.”
A yellow dress stands for boldness, bravery and the unexpected. However, in case, you don’t want to go all out in a single yellow hued dress but want the happy vibe of yellow, then choose a print that includes this colour. Prints are very much on trend so you should be able to find a few fabulous ones in the stores. You can choose a print that combines yellow with all your other favorite colours from this season.
Lastly, designer Sayantan Sarkar suggests, “Ladies, as a sartorial rule, always remember: whatever the reason for a trend being tricky — whether it’s the shape, print or colour — a trouser is the answer. Try a light yellow trouser and contrast it with a collared shirt or pared down with a knit. Voila, you are all set.”
