Dressed for the Downpour
Roomy fabrics, shorter hemlines and sensible shoes the fashion frat dishes suggestions on how to bring out your A-game this monsoon.
The season of pitter-patter has set in! But, this time around, it is time for a wardrobe revamp — and flaunt those good ol’ trusty trenches after an instant jazz, of course. With several trends having hit the fashion radar, finding comfortable silhouettes that keep your chic quotient during the mushy monsoon isn’t that big a hassle anymore. But just in case you need assistance, we have you covered. Popular names from the fashion fraternity give us style notes to consider in order to be comfortable yet chic for the rainy days ahead...
“Monsoon is the time to flaunt the clear raincoat as capes. Casual hoodies and trench coats will seep into the season. The trend of flaunting bright and bold trench coats is in, and Indian millennials are more ready to flaunt standout hues. For those who aren’t ready to go all out, yet would want to get a tad experimental, you can opt for a bright and colourful top inside. You can strike out a balance by throwing over a beige trench. But, I truly believe it’s that time of the year to go all out with a bold hued trench. Go for short lengths and pair it with knee high boots or hunter boots. Don’t forget the shades and stole, too!,” begins Natasha Tyagi, a fashion designer. Suggesting how the weather calls for one to play around with boots, designer Ramesh Dembla says, “I think it’s the best time to sport anything that’s mid-length – skirts, short and midi dresses or asymmetrical skirts that are above the ankle.
The choices are aplenty. Give your denims a break, as it isn’t the best option for the rains. The same rule applies with high heels and stilettos. While a lot has been spoken about fabrics, Dembla’s opinions differ. “I don’t think fabrics play that big a role. Comfort is a factor you can’t overlook no matter what the season is. Avoid tight-fitted clothes though,” he says. Adding how soft silks are great options to choose from, designer Babita Jaishankar says, “Bell sleeves and flowy silhouettes that don’t stick to you are the perfect bets to strike an intelligent balance between comfortable and chic this season. Something roomy and off shoulder outfits are trending too. Fresh prints and bright hues are no longer restricted to just the summer. So, make the most of the trend.”
Clearly, the weather comes with a message: The rains may dampen your plan, but ensure it doesn’t dampen your dress!
