Bored of the reds and greens that usually scream ‘Merry Christmas’? Then white is the way to go this season. Celebrity stylists tell us how we can make it to this year’s Christmas parties with a classy, yet festive look.

“It will be fun to go white this Christmas. Contrary to popular belief, white is not a dull colour. In fact, it is all the colours put together that makes white,” says stylist Indrakshi Pattanaik. Giving her suggestions she adds, “White can be accessorised with any colour to make it instantly festive. A bright red clutch or red pumps to a whole white outfit with red lips is classic and never goes out of style. Knee high boots are in this season, so you can pair that up with a short white dress or a shirt-dress. If I were to style a celebrity for a Christmas party, I’d choose to go with that, with small, cute little Christmasy things printed on them.”

For men, Indrakshi suggests a play with different shades of white. “A beige blazer with white shirt looks great. Pair a bright solid colour or a colourful, chequered scarf to it, and you’re good to go,” she says.

Neerja Kona sites Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, as those who have not only mastered nude on nude, but also the whites and the method of layering. “This Christmas, layering should be of prime focus, with knitwear and other material. This way, all white doesn’t get boring. White goes really well with sparkle. Studded shoes or statement neckpieces will add a lot of character to the outfit. For a more casual look, white turtlenecks with white denims are universal and never get old,” she says and adds, “White and black give you a blank canvass with which you can do a lot. A smokey eye and a nude lip would look stunning.” For men, she advices, “A fitted blazer look is classic. To incorporate a festive element, adding a vest is a good idea.”

Another celebrity stylist, Rick Roy, however, does not suggest white for men at all. “It’s a personal opinion, but very few men can carry off white at a party. White for casuals is okay. In Delhi, one can wear a beautiful, long white coat but in Mumbai, you’d have to wear just another white outfit. For women, if you are attending a mass, wear a long white dress like Kareena did, with an emerald neckpiece. Bling is really in this season and captures the spirit of Christmas. Having said that, don’t dress like a Christmas tree, but take hints from it — not just to your accessories but also your outfit,” he says.
