Ultra shorts for high fashion
Dressing short and sexy appears to be the hot new mantra for our stars.
While there are several ways to break the Internet, a tried and tested trick for young starlets to grab attention is by flaunting their fashion A-game. On most dressy occasions we swoon over the designer wear and bespoke ensembles, but what keeps the social media buzzing on mundane days are the candid paparazzi pictures giving us a peek into their regular wardrobe. Looking at the frequent ultra-short shorts appearances on the gram, it’s safe to say that Gen Z actresses just can’t get enough of the mini pants.
From Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor to Ananya Pandey and Sara Ali khan — the new hotties of B-town are often spotted running around in ultra shorts and sneakers. Blame it on the balmy Mumbai weather or call it the hottest way to show off toned legs after a regimental workout sesh – super shorts paired with funky tees and cute accessories are a hit among celebrities all throughout the year.
There is no denying the fact that the gen Z stars are way more fashion-conscious than the rest of the celebrities and designer Rhea Pillai Rastogi feels that Janhvi Kapoor is one of the young girls who is pulling off the sexy shorts look effortlessly. She says, “From her gym or athleisure wear to her other appearances Janhvi has been nailing the look without any hesitation. Keeping it easy, with not a lot of elements is the right way to go. Comfort is surely the key factor, and I believe the best way to wear it like a celebrity is to be comfortable in the fit. Colourful short shorts can be dressed up with a blazer for an unexpected but quirky look. The extra short denim shorts are classics to be worn with a plain white or black tee and can be accessorised with bags and layered necklaces. If there is a lot of activity involved, avoid wearing them.”
Pairing boots with ultra-short rolled shorts would be a great idea for casual to concert wear, or invest in some pretty pinks and royal blue shorts like Ananya and Sara to stand out among the crowd. Fashion expert Nanki Papneja from Limerick, says, “Millennial celebrities usually love taking it easy especially when they are dressed from top to toe for every single event which can get quite hectic considering the lifestyle they have. Pairing up shorts with an easy-going top serves just as the right alternative. Sara Ali Khan styles herself the best when it comes to pulling off shorts. Her style is very millennial, as she does not believe in overdressing. Shorts paired with a simple top and hair tied back in a pony along with flip flops makes for her usual style whenever spotted.”
Haute favourite among celebrities, the super shorts are the “skinny denim” for this generation according to celebrity designer Aniket Satam. He calls them a versatile investment and can be worn in many ways to dress up or down according to the mood. He says, “Understand your body type and explore the right fit and cut which compliments your body type while sporting the super shorts. Style them with a bright and basic pop tank top and layer it loose knit sweater top for cool casual outings. One can also simply layer super shorts with oversized XXL belt or wear the torn denim super shorts with cinched oversize statement belt and hoops for lunch with girls. For a night look, layer the black super shorts with a silk camisole and fringed kimono jacket for a dinner date or simply layer the micro shorts with statement oversized double-breasted jacket.”
It is really important to know the occasion where you opt to wear the ultra-short shorts. Don’t follow trends blindly as they are different for each body type, remarks designer Prreeti Jaiin Nainutia. She shares some cool pairing ideas, “Team super shorts with sporty bralettes and fun sneakers for day time. For evenings, glam it up by teaming some shiny tank tops with asymmetric necklines or a statement blouse in silk or taffeta. You can also opt for white-hot shorts and pair it with a plaid down t-shirt for a semi-casual look.”
For athleisure wear, one can pair their shorts with a contrasting colour tank top or a full sleeves jacket. Hair tied back in a sleek ponytail with a comfortable pair of shoes can make you look super athletic and smart. For the perfect high fashion look, pair your shorts with a crop top and ankle-length boots. Put on a belt bag along with simple hand accessories to complete your chic look. For a more casual approach, a white shirt tucked half in the shorts makes for the ultimate on the go attire. Hair tied in a bun with a statement bag to balance out the simplicity is sure to make heads turn on the streets.
