If you're a lady boss, you already knew the strengths of dressing to kill! There is absolutely nothing like dressing for the job but why not venture out those sharp suits to spaces besides the corporate? Celebrities like Pink, Gigi Hadid and closer home Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone are game-changers with the power dressing trend back in full-swing. These lady bosses have been showing us that girls can have fun too!

Knowing the dos and dont's of this trend is absolutely vital and we ask these city-based fashion experts about styling power apparel. The feminine appeal is also a new touch to the otherwise straight suits. Ruffles on shirts, a little off shoulder touch or a simple corset vest can really take your look to the next level.
These new touches also give you the vantage to take formal wear to spaces besides the corporate. Ensuring that your clothes are well-fitted is the essence to power dressing as designer Devika Kalia says, “Power dressing is not just about looking good but it also gives it a feminine touch while making a statement. There is so much to experiment with here. You could take your 9 to 5 look to different spaces, by pairing cigarette pants with a smart crop top. You could also play around with the lengths of your jackets or skirts. Ensure that your clothes fit you well too.”

This season experimenting with fabrics has made all the difference to power dressing. Move over sensible cotton and linen! It's time for something a bit more fancy. Aswathi Balakrishnan, fashion blogger says, “A lot of people have been using different materials besides the usual cotton or linen blends. Velvet is very in and a lovely suit in velvet or a well-fitted velvet blazer with pants will do the trick. Formal wear is more than just pencil skirts or mannish pantsuits. The designs for women’s apparel are really gorgeous right now. It's always better to keep the accessorising to the minimum with power dressing.”

Keep it simple and real when it comes to dressing in formal wear. A simple combination of block colours with whites, greys, blues and or the quintessential black monotone works just right! Nilu Thapa, fashion blogger, says, “It’s not an everyday look, but once in a while this trend gives your personality the right boost. I love pairing a blazer with matching pant. This remains an all-time favourite. Culottes are three fourth length, wide bottomed pants which have also been seeing the light of day. I would style culottes with turtlenecks and maybe a simple piece of statement jewellery to make my look stand out while looking classy at the same time. A stylish bag to carry your work stuff or essentials in a basic colour like black, or tan is the best accessory.”
