With a twist here and a tweak there, modern weddings in India are the perfect blend of tradition with modernity; and we, can’t help but notice the edgy trends that are slowly becoming an integral part of a newage bridal trousseau. Right from newlywed actors like Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra to young millennial brides — one can observe oodles of elegance fused with a bit of quirk and personalisation in dreamy bridal wardrobes that are absolute #weddinggoals.

Bridal Couture has evolved and the jet set generation Z has taken the whole concept of the big fat Indian wedding to the next level. The new generation loves to experiment and create new trends, and keeping the traditions intact they are indulging in bespoke experiences thus making the job of a designer very challenging. Designer Charu Parashar says, “Brides these days like comfort and they want to wear a light lehenga without compromising on the look. A 32 kg lehenga is replaced by a lighter version, and colours like white or blue are now part of the bridal palette — something that was never considered for bridal outfits in India. Brides want to wear jewellery that can be used and they are matching it with designer sneakers with the look to be comfortable on their big day. Gowns are a done deal for cocktails that too in shades like champagne pink, beige, white or ocean blue. Even jumpsuits are catching up.

Whether you prefer a sexy lace number, a bohemian style or a free-flowing clean-cut suit, power puff girls will love the power jumpsuit. As far as grooms are concerned, its heartwarming to see them adorning floral prints on Sherwanis to up the fashion game. For 2019, as far as weddings are concerned I would recommend floral prints, appliqué, 3D prints, hand embroidery, dramatic dresses with bursts of bright floral detail, shimmering fabrics, sexy sheer panelling, bold, intricately designed and high-fashion gowns that could be considered works of art in their own right. Whether you’re a bohemian bride, modern, classic, glamorous or quirky  just keep the golden rule in mind keep “comfort first then fashion” and please don’t kill yourself getting into a gown or top, remember it is your wedding day so have fun.”

Designer Arjun Kapoor,  says – “If you’re looking to achieve a bohemian look on your wedding day, you can’t go past a simple lace or feathered dress. Lace and crocheted fabrics are synonymous with the boho aesthetic, making them an ideal choice. Of course, not just any lace gown will suit the bohemian style. To nail the look, try choosing from long, flowing styles and simple silhouettes. If you’re having a beach wedding, you may also want to consider selecting a flowy kaftan design in bright colours with some accessories to jazz it up. I see bold bright colours for this season – fuschia, purple, peacock blues, and turquoise will be a big hit. To nail that beachy aesthetic while maintaining your bridal polish, select a romantic design that’s comfortable and chic. A long lace style or flowing maxi dress will make an excellent option. You can also opt for a romantic backless option with a sheer lace finish.”

To nail a perfect boho look and be fabulous at your wedding, invest in kaftans with a hint of ostrich feathers on one side to give it an extra oomph. The Indian brands that have a boho aesthetic have been worn on many occasions by the ultimate fashionistas and A-listers, informs Harpreet Singh, founder, Weddings. Singh adds,  “The boho bride is all about the chic yet relaxed look. She has a romantic aesthetic but with a carefree twist. Many people are mistaken when they feel that boho means casual but this is not true – many boho designs are glamorous and luxe by adding a hint of crystals or feathers to the mix.”

While an edgy ensemble is important of a bride’s wardrobe, one cannot simply overlook the fact that a beautiful accessory is a girl’s best friend. Jewellery designer Musskan Agarwaal says, “A piece of accessory always attracts people and to complete the boho bride look, style a piece of jewellery in an unusual way to highlight the details. For this bridal season opt for contemporary, modern, fun and bold jewellery that make you look the best from the rest. Ideally, bridal jewellery should be minimalistic, pragmatic, clean and contemporary. From bold earrings to statement rings and handcuffs, kamar band, choker, and mang tikka maintain a balance between your garment and jewellery to make sure the beauty of both the things comes out equally.”
