Workout wear to flaunt
Athleisure is on everyone's mind as it is stylish, comfortable and easy to do.
Thinking of squeezing a quick workout before you head to work? Go for it, and don’t bother changing into office wear afterwards! Workout wear is in vogue right now with athleisure making your comfort zone the real deal. Celebrities like the Hadids, Jenners and even Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor have been making sleek and sporty work for them, all day long!
With more people hopping on to fitness trends and being fitness conscious, it’s no surprise that workout wear becomes stylish street wear too, as designer Deepta Raghunath says, “Workout gear is designed aesthetically to be worn for longer hours. More than anything, it is comfortable and colourful, so people tend to wear it even otherwise. The fit and details given to it make it very fashionable.”
Smart fabrics, solid colours and funky detailing define the casual trend, the biggest pro here being that workout apparel is designed for performance. The most striking trend from 2017 is pairing high-waisted leggings with a sports bra or crop top, with a leather jacket and a pair of sunnies to complete the look. Nilu Thapa, a fashion blogger says, “Brands have come out with lots of prints and colours in their collection. Sportswear is evolving, it’s not restricted to a tank top. There are lots of designs going in for sports bras as well, and a muscle tee over a coloured sports bra looks quite nice. If you are someone who is comfortable with showing a little bit of skin, this trend is surely for you as it is breaking the norm while keeping you in your comfort zone as well.”
Workout wear will make do a double-take of bright colours like pinks, oranges and purples, ones that you definitely wouldn’t wear out and about, in your right mind. Nischitha Babu, a fashion blogger says, “Gym wear makes for a colourful attire with lots of designs, patterns and can be colour coordinated. You’ve to be a little careful when pairing bright colours. Personally, I love bright coloured socks to go with my outfit.”
Colour blocking is an interesting concept that you can try out with workout wear. Sonia Thiyam, a stylist, recommends picking a single block colour that can stand out while toning down the rest of the outfit with mute shades like greys and blacks.
