Fashion alert: Revival of white denims

Generally considered to be the high-maintenance member of the denim family, white denims are an evergreen summer fashion trend, which make a comeback year after year. Sure one needs to be a bit careful while wearing them as they can be ruined by a single unguarded sit-down. But they are always around every summer without fail, flashing on many-a-celebrities’ style radar.

White jeans were originally made popular in their stretchy, bikini-line-low avatar by celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears and they enjoy great patronage even today by contemporary style icons like the Kar-Jenner sisters and Hailey Bieber. The millennials have certainly helped the white denims evolve into something more a lot more chic and sophisticated. Thick, high-waisted variety of white denims with crisp formal shirts casually tucked in is how the kids are wearing it these days.

So, go in for a straight-fit or a skinny white denim this season, paired with casual crop tops in bright colours. There are two things one must be mindful of with white denims. Firstly, one needs to go in for heavier denim fabric than as compared to dark jeans, because white denims go semi-transparent with wear and tear when making a purchase. Secondly, you need to wash your white jeans every time you wear them.

As reported by The Guardian, another way to sport white denims without falling into the trap of clichés is to pair them up with a variety of footwear. “Instead of espadrilles, which are just a bit too much of a cliche, go for flat sandals or simple white tennis shoes (pleasingly south of France) or loafers (hipster-ishly Princess Di),” it stated.

One of the few celebs who have often been spotted in white denims is Elizabeth Hurley. White denims allowed her to dress down without losing out on the glamour quotient. White denims have helped summers look elegant and suave from the times that predate social media.  

According to The Guardian, “Hurley is far from alone in her love of white denim. Fashion writer Emma Elwick-Bates, Tatler’s editor at large, is so devoted to them that when she gave birth to her son, Hector, she arrived and left hospital in white jeans, ‘much to the amusement of medical staff.’” So, go ahead and try white denims to give yourself the much needed fresh and crisp summer look.
