If you’re a frequent drinker of red wine, in all probability, you’re all too familiar with the hangover your favourite drink can cause the next day. According to Vinepair, the tannis, sugar, and histamines in your red wine are the main reasons why you feel like your head could explode the morning after.

When the sugar and alcohol in the drink mix — and you’ve had one too many — the effect causes you to get dehydrated, causing a headache. The histamines can well cause the dry eyes, and runny nose. So, how do you avoid the pain and misery of the morning after a drink? If Dr Seymour Diamond is to be believed, drinking coffee before drinking can help you avoid a hangover.

The chairman of the National Headache Foundation revealed that a couple of cups of coffee before the wine can alleviate the headache and other after effects. By constricting your blood vessels, the caffeine can reduce the vascular effects of wine. He also believes that adding honey to your coffee can help you process the alcohol faster.

Dr Diamond also said that other tricks to avoid a headache include drinking water, drinking your wine slowly and taking antihistamine to fight off the allergy-like symptoms of a hangover.
