The best kept secrets eventually come out in the open. This one involves mayonnaise, our favourite sandwich spread. From slathering it on bread slices to adding spoonfuls of it in salads, we never shy away from gorging on it. Not just eat, you can also strengthen your nails and exfoliate skin with it!

But cleaning? That definitely comes as a surprise! According to Southern Living, our beloved condiment can also be used for wiping off some stubborn grease. Looks like the solution for the trickiest things to clean has been humbly hiding away in your own refrigerators. Here are a few non-conventional ways to use mayonnaise for cleaning:

Repair scratches from hardwood floors

The oily texture of mayo creates a greasy layer that goes right into the tiny cracks and scuffs on the floor. It takes up the colour of the floor, and acts like a mask of sorts which makes the scratches invisible.

Here’s how you can do it- First, use an oil-based soap and rub it on the floor to get rid of surface-level dirt. Next, apply a generous coat of mayo on the cracks and let it rest overnight. Finally, use a wet rag to remove the mayo, and voila! You have a clear, shiny, new looking floor!

Remove adhesive residue

Keep scratching, but you know how stubborn those adhesive marks are. Don’t worry, mayo got it all covered! You can now rub off those lingering signs of all sticky things, from labels to bumper stickers. All you have to do is slather some mayo, leave it on for 20 minutes, and wipe it off.

Clean stainless-steel

It’s time to say good bye to fingerprints on your stainless steel utensils. Just take some mayo and spread it across. A quick wipe should do it, and the unwanted stains from your stainless steel stuff are gone!
