Twins born joined to each other have been reported from across the world in the past few years as such births usually follow complex surgeries to separate them. But in cases witnessed rarely, the other twin fails to fully develop and is often born protruding from the baby’s body.

In a similar case from Mumbra, doctors discovered a half developed baby on the back of the stomach of a healthy baby boy. The underdeveloped twin removed surgically by doctors was a seven centimetre long mass with a brain, arm and legs.

The case was that of foetus in fetu twin pregnancy which has only been recorded 200 times all over the world by far. A radiologist spotted out the problem in a scan and found the half formed male baby in the fetal sack of the infant.

While the mass was successfully removed and the child is safe now, such cases could lead to death of the infant as both the baby and the underdeveloped twin get nutrition from the same cord.
