Woman gets heart attack after trying to cleanse her colon by drinking a litre soy sauce

Crash diets and hacks gaining popularity online can be extremely dangerous as has been witnessed in several cases. Despite repeated warnings from medical practitioners, people keep trying out such unhealthy practices as many more keep emerging.

A 39-year-old American woman went into cardiac arrest and suffered brain damage after trying to cleanse her colon by drinking soy sauce. She consumed a liter of the condiment within two hours and had 200 grams of salt in her blood which is five times a lethal dose.

Doctors tried to bring down sodium levels but the change was too rapid and that left her brain dead. Her husband said that she had lost 11 kg in three weeks by going on a diet of canned fish and white bread.

She had also been hospitalised for paranoid schizophrenia and she thought she was being poisoned by the government. She came across the soy sauce hoax online and thought it could cleanse her colon of toxins.
