Doctors remove contact lens from woman's eyelid 28 years after she was hit in the eye
The revelation came after she complained of swelling on her left upper eyelid which was drooping for months.
Contact lenses are supposed to make life easier for those with weak eyesight, but one needs to be careful while using them. Accidents which may seem minor at first may turn out to have impact years later.
When a female badminton player was hit in the eye by a shuttlecock at the age of 14, doctors assumed that her contact lens simply fell off and was lost. But 28 years after the incident, they were astonished to find that the lens was lodged in the 42-year-old’s eyelid the entire time.
The revelation came after she complained of swelling on her left upper eyelid which was drooping for months. Tests were conducted on the lump which was thought to be just another cyst.
But doctors were shocked to find an intact contact lens inside the lump which they went on to crack and extract. This case brings to light the longest time between lens migration and eyelid swelling caused by it.
