Celebrate every body'
Life coaches suggest ways to form a positive body image and introduce you to healthier ways of looking at yourself.
Khloe Kardashian used to be embarrassed to make eye contact with people because of her weight. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star made the confession as she chatted with participant Samantha McCord on her E! show. She said, “If I saw someone, I would still look down, even though, obviously, they could still see me. By just not having the eye contact, I felt safe not looking them in the eye.”
It is important to understand that body image is the perception we create in our minds about ourselves. It is an internal war, which you are fighting against your own physical form, asserts life coach Chetna Mehrotra, “Most people sulk under the weight of it and the side effects spills over in their actions too. Unless we change our own perception of how others are perceive us, the cycle of punishing and abusing our bodies will continue. Start being comfortable in your skin and half the perception battle is over.”
While it is easier said than done, with it being a deep-rooted problem, you need to work on your own selves and your thought process. To stop criticising is the first step. “Weight is only one problem. Do not make it your life’s problem. Think fit, forget about fat. You need functional fitness to get through your day happily. Take small steps towards fitness and focus on that. If your doctor says you are fit, stop figuring out ways to get in the ‘fat rat race’” says life-coach Khyati Birla.
Chetna emphasises, “You stop harassing your body by appreciating it. Every time you criticise your body, bear in mind, the best things about your body. That shall overpower your sense of criticism. When you see anyone making a casual remark over any body type, protest it and make it clear that they know how important it is to be comfortable in your own body. Whether you are dark, fair, skinny or fat, your body wants you to support it and in return it gives you positive vibrations. When you sulk, your body feels rejected and stops being receptive. Always be there for yourself.”
While ads and fashion magazines constantly triggers negative feelings of inadequacy, it is important to consciously train your mind to divert these emotions. “They lead to adopting desperate measures and adds on to the stress levels, which induce release of hormones that hoards fat in your body. When you keep the above in mind, every time you feel rejected by society for who you are, you will rise up with more strength to stand up for your right to exist happily and the way you are,” adds Khyati.
