38-year-old gives birth after uterus transplant she received from her twin sister

Having a child is an important experience for many people but sometimes health issues can leave them unable to do so. With time medicine has made progress which has enabled several ways to solve this problem.

In a heart warming story from Italy, a 38-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy thanks to a uterus transplant from her twin sister. While this is the 12th successful birth due to a uterus transplant, it’s the first time such a procedure was conducted between twins.

The transplant was conducted in 2017 in Belgrade by a Swedish medical team. The procedure has also been carried out in China, Germany, Turkey and UK will also have its first womb transplant soon.
