4 ways to reset your life this autumn

Autumn is that weirdly happy blend of coffee and Halloween, of old pages and new evenings that await our immersion. Even before you slow down and try to admire its true essence, the routine of banal existence strikes hard with all its force. So you’re back to your chores, to your work life, to even joyous moments that have become a part of your life. At the same time, you can’t completely get rid of them.

With languid summer days bidding adieu and chilled cocktails staying chilled for longer hours, it’s time to get back on track. Here’s what you can do to reset your life this autumn:

Exercise

Admit it, most of you have taken New Year resolutions to stay healthy and fit, and have even followed them. For a week? Two weeks? Maybe more. Chances are, you haven’t stuck onto them. So start now, when the days are longer, and the weather is just perfect.

Don’t go all in when you’re starting out. Try building up to 4 workout sessions a week, and gradually incorporate it into your regime. Keep a track of the days you exercise. Also, if you’re not fond of the gym, go hiking, or take up aerobics- anything that fits the bill. But set goals and do it.

Food

You probably binged a lot this summer. And with winter inching in, you’ll only be gorging more on all the treats. So, September is a good time to refocus your diet. It’s the same mantra; eat healthy with a balanced mixture of fruits, vegetables, nuts, healthy fats, proteins and wholegrains.

According to The Guardian, you don’t have to go on a fad diet to fix all the overindulging. Take smaller portions, but don’t cut off the essentials, and go for healthy substitutes. Plan your meals and practice mindful eating.

Money

It’s not just food that you binged on. You might’ve also spent on other indulgences, and now is a good time to take a financial health check-up. Figure out which are the areas where the expenses can be lowered and savings can be roped in.

In particular, take a glance at your impulsive online shopping behaviour. Reconsider your relationship with money. Ditch expensive parties that you don’t need and look for discounts or coupons to save a little more. You’ll be surprised by how minor changes can bring in major savings.

Sleep

If there’s any weather that’s just the right for a good night’s sleep, it has to be autumn. And while the sleep rule-book says you should sleep for 8 hours a day, sleep requirements vary among individuals. Plus, you should also consider the quality of sleep you get.

An effective way to maintain a good sleep cycle is to follow a routine. Take a shower before bed, and make sure the temperature is conducive to sleep. Consider the sleep accessories you use, like pillows, bedsheets and blankets. Make sure you go to bed at the same time every day, even on weekends.
