A Homey Eve
This year the citizens in the capital city welcomed the new decade in their own way.
Whether you are the kid from school or college-going youngster or a person belonging to the working class, December 31 is the pivotal night come what may as it is the day where you bid adieu to the year that has gone by and make resolutions that one would (or at least plan to) fulfil for the next year.
This year, many Dilliwalas took the home route rather than hitting the roads on a cold and foggy night. Bhavika Diddee, a student, expresses, “Every New Year my father throws a party where all my family and friends come and visit us and we enjoy the evening with a bonfire in my garden with barbeque and few snacks.” She adds, “I think this New Year evening was the best so far because I was celebrating it with my close ones and was entering 2020 with all together which was special for me.”
Deepika Sharma, a Gen-zer, celebrated the last night of 2019 with her best friends, where they went on a long drive to explore what’s going around Delhi. She says, “This year Connaught Place was looking at its best with lights. And the fireworks that played exactly when the minute hand was at midnight hour, it was just amazing.” Once the firework show was over, she and her best friends took to their favourite spot where they had coffee with a huge blend of conversations which was “a perfect start of the year.”
Bringing in the new year is not only about going out and partying but it also means being at home and spending time with family and Nandini Agarwal did just that. She welcomed this year with her family watching old movies as the clock strikes 12 and says, “It was a fitting end to 2019 as it gave me a lot of things to be excited about and taught me innumerate lessons including a very simple one as family comes first.”
Dipali also likes spending time with family on New Year’s Eve night but rather than spending it at home, she went out with her people. She elaborates, “I honestly like to be with my parents and brother because I feel that I should be with someone who knows me the most and better than just going out and partying after dinner.”
But there were also some people who wanted to party but end up being at home. “This New Year’s Eve was the first time when I was home and not partying with my friends as I was not well but I realised that staying home was also not bad while you can just sit back relax, watch a good movie and order your favourite food,” says Shashank Singh a Law student.
