‘Britain’s best-dressed’ thief stole designer products worth about £2,000 and got caught in an attempt to steal Tesco sunglasses.

23-year-old Dragos Patrunjel, who was dubbed 'Britain's best-dressed' thief by Twitter, stole items worth £1,100 from Hugo Boss, £300 from Tommy Hilfiger, £160 from Calvin Klein, £130 from H&M, £100 from Gant and £60 from Armani.

His shoplifting spree came to an end when he was caught trying to nick sunglasses in a Tesco supermarket when security staff realised Patrunjel had a device to remove security tags from clothes.

The police then raided his home and discovered the stolen designer goods.

Patrunjel did not have to pay compensation as the stolen clothes were returned to Swindon's McArthurGlen designer outlet, from where they were stolen.

When Patrunjel appeared before Swindon Magistrates Court on January 31, he admitted to seven charges of theft.

The court ordered Dragos to carry out 50 hours of unpaid work over the year, and to pay £85 costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
