What happened to your resolution?
Some Delhiites, who are huffing and puffing to keep it going, share their experiences with us.
While New year’s eve begins for most people with fresh resolutions and a newfound enthusiasm, does it even manage to survive a week? Delhiites look back at resolutions and their struggle to stick to them.
New Year’s resolutions, a lot like promises are meant to be broken. Well, that isn’t a line said by any famous social thinker but the ones who are finding it difficult to maintain the resolutions merely a week into the year. For many, their resolutions have already begun to lose steam. Some Delhiites, who are huffing and puffing to keep it going, share their experiences with us.
Take the case of Mallika Jain, an entrepreneur, who says, “My resolution this time was to say a big no to anything irresistible being served to me, be it the finest wine or a delicious food item. But living in a city where parties are thrown at the drop of the hat, be it freezing cold or unrelenting heat, my resolution is proving to be an acid test. All my attempts to stay away from a lavish spread are failing as I am being invited for so many outdoor luncheons, restaurant openings, weddings and parties.”
People take the simple New Year resolutions like healthy eating, losing weight, reading more books, travelling more et al but even the simplest of promises to oneself, seemingly become hard to keep. Shweta Singh, a city- based entrepreneur, just realised it. “I started this year with the resolution of going with the famous phrase ‘early to bed and early to rise’ but I don’t see that happening at all. It’s been a week and I am still going to bed around 2 am. Now, I don’t feel any motivation for any resolution. Probably all this will compel me to take a resolution of fulfilling all my pending resolutions before making new ones, next year,” she jokes.
Manish Sharma, a restaurateur, cracks a joke on himself, “This time I took a new year resolution with high hopes of fulfilling it, and this year also I have stayed true to the spirit of breaking it.” He explains his predicament. “I had decided to give up on my drinks for a month till my next restaurant is launched, but at my first day of work in 2018, the team started with the trials so I have been sipping the most innovative cocktails from January 1 without taking a day off. Basically, I have been following the very opposite of my resolution,” he rues.
