Kerala man invents 'chappal camera' for taking upskirt images of women
The man named Baiju was taking pictures of women and girls at the Kerala Kalosavam festival in Thrissur.
Crimes against women including molestation, sexual harassment and eve teasing are high as they aren’t safe even in public spaces. Recently reports of women being stalked and harassed on social media have raised concern, but such incidents just don’t seem to stop despite constant outrage.
In another shocking incident from Kerala, a man went to the extent of inventing a ‘chappal camera’ using his phone and footwear to take up skirt videos of unsuspecting women. The man named Baiju was taking pictures of women and girls at the Kerala Kalosavam festival in Thrissur.
Baiju can be seen cutting a hole on the upper surface of his slipper and sliding the phone in the space between the sole and the surface. As the camera of the phone was aligned with the hole facing upwards, he also encased the phone in a steel cover to safeguard it from damage.
While he went around in the crowd trying to take videos, the police fortunately noticed him moving and looking at his foot repeatedly. He had come prepared with another phone in case the phone in the slipper ran out of battery.
The police soon apprehended him and uncovered the device in his slipper. A similar case was reported from Delhi a couple of years back when a businessman was caught doing the same with a shoe camera.
