Indian Rock singer Jayashree Singh passes away

The singer, along with her husband, the veteran bassist Gyan Singh started out in rock music in the 1970s.

One of the most memorable singers in Indian Rock, Jayashree Singh who was a part of such popular bands such as Skinny Alley and Pinknoise, passed away after a prolonged illness in Chennai.

The singer was in her 60s.

The singer, along with her husband, the veteran bassist Gyan Singh, who passed away in 2012, started out in rock music in the 1970s, before formally creating Skinny Alley in 2001.

Jayashree who was a popular figure in the music circuit collaborated with numerous artists in her career, many of whom are notable musicians.

Speaking to this correspondent, Nishit Arora, director, Smoke Inc, said, “She was very encouraging and supportive of everything that we were trying to do for music. I would ask her for guidance and suggestions and she was always forthcoming."

He goes on to add, "She was more than an artist to me. She was such an amazing human being , always inspiring and kind. I remember having those dinner get togethers at her place where she would call all the musicians young and new and we would just spend hours talking, sharing stories and making future plans for the scene. Now we have all the more responsibility to make big things happen so that we can make her proud. This is a big big loss."
