Rajini-Ranjith's next film on Mumbai slums?
Sources reveal that the Superstar could play an activist in Dharavi.
This could be the biggest news in recent times, if sources are to be believed. The closely-guarded story of Superstar Rajinikanth’s next collaboration with Pa Ranjith of Kabali fame looks to be out!
When Rajini’s son-in-law and national award winner, Dhanush, made the big announcement that his home banner ‘Wunderbar Films’ would bankroll Rajinikanth’s next after 2.O, to be directed by Ranjith, Thalaivar’s fans went crazy. Recently, the director and his team were on a location hunt in Mumbai. Later, they reportedly met Rajinikanth and discussed the looks and attires for Superstar in the film.
Now, a little birdie reveals that the premise for the flick has been set in Mumbai, and the story is yet again Ranjith’s attempt to speak up for the downtrodden. Apparently, the story is set amidst the slums of Mumbai — and if Rajini played a crusader of the Malaysian Tamils in Kabali — the Baasha star will be seen as an activist who speaks for the Mumbai Tamils of Dharavi slums, in this one. Since it would be a Herculean task to shoot at real slum locations, the makers are considering replicating it on a set, or shoot using the green mat format.
Let’s wait and watch see how Ranjith portrays Rajini’s character in the upcoming new flick. After all, ace Mani Ratnam gave the timeless classic Nayagan with Kamal Haasan, on the same subject, taking inspiration from a real life gangster — the late Varadarajan Mudaliar. The film fetched several national awards, including one for Kamal Haasan as the best actor. Maybe it will be the Superstar’s turn finally!
