Avoid using a face wash or scrub immediately post the celebrations, as it will further damage your already irritated and dry skin.

Even though the no-holds barred colour play gives us an amazing time, it also causes havoc on our skin and hair. Synthetic inputs and chemicals can not only cause allergic reactions to the skin and scalp, but also end up triggering breakouts. That said, here are tips to remember after Holi.

  • Avoid using a face wash or scrub immediately post the celebrations, as it will further damage your already irritated and dry skin. Opt for a mild cleanser.
  • Shake off the loose colour well from your hair before washing it. Then leave your hair under a shower for a few minutes to ensure most of the colour is washed off by water. Now, use a mild shampoo to remove the oil, colour and dirt off your hair and scalp. And then, apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair for extra nourishment.
  • Use lukewarm water for washing yourself. Don’t go overboard and rub your skin harshly if the colour doesn’t come off in the first wash. In an attempt to wash off the colour, you’ll end up damaging and drying out your skin further. It may take a couple of days to get rid of the colour immediately. Also remember not to rub a loofah as it can cause further irritation to the skin where colour particles are sticking.
  • You can make a home-made face mask of besan, milk, haldi and sandalwood powder and apply it to your face, neck and hands. This will rejuvenate, revitalise and soothe your skin from the harmful effects of chemicals and excessive soap on your skin.
