1 She left her home and went underground and set up India’s first radio station, the Secret Congress Radio. The heroic venture during the Quit India movement left the British hapless. 4 She was married to a revolutionary and was close to Mahatma Gandhi and Chandrashekhar Azad. She began supporting Azad by secretly carrying messages. She was a part of the infamous Kakori train robbery conspiracy and was given the charge of
delivering firearms. Identify.

5 He is revered as a martyr in Tamil Nadu and is known by the epithet ‘Kodikatha Kumaran’ — who saved the flag since he gave his life defending the Indian Nationalists Flag. He was killed during a protest march against the arrest of Mahatma Gandhi in 1932. He was found dead holding the flag. Identify.

The air in these corridors of monuments still echo the stories of the hardships of our people. Let’s glance at some of the popular monuments associated with the
freedom struggle.

1 This monument originally had seven straight wings connected to a tower looking like a bicycle wheel with each wing attached like a spoke of the wheel. This design was based on English philosopher Jeremy Bentham’s concept of the Panopticon. Puce coloured bricks were brought from Burma to construct the building. Identify. 

2 This monument was donated to the government of India in 1969. This was the place where Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai died. Legend goes that a Sultan built this to provide employment to the famine struck villagers of the surrounding region. Identify. 

3 In 1870, Prince of Saxe-Coburg visited Allahabad and this place got its name. It was built when the old cantonments of Georgetown were transformed into a park following which Civil Lines called Canning Town was developed following the Mutiny. It was renamed after which Indian?

4 Gandhiji visited Karnataka around 18 times, including 14 visits to Bangalore, to reinforce the struggle against the British. The Mahatma also stayed for a month at this beautiful heritage structure in a 14-acre patch. It was originally the residence of Sir K. Seshadri Iyer, the longest-serving Dewan of Mysore and architect of modern Bangalore. Identify.

The largest sugar factory in Asia, known as the Shree Khedut Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandali Limited, was the first ever sugar factory that was started in the state’s cooperative sector.
