A door is the first thing that your guests will notice about your home or office; a colourful and unique one welcomes them into your living space with its cheerful exterior. This year is all about bright coloured doors that enhance the whole house, providing it the much-needed facelift. Whether it’s a front door, a garage door or internal door, it must look stylish and blend well with the design of your abode.

The door is usually overlooked but is an integral part of the interior design. They are more than functional elements that open or close to ensuring privacy and security. It is the first element that visitors notice while entering your home so it becomes a crucial part of the overall colour scheme. Décor expert Natasha Jain, CEO and co-founder of Bent Chair, lists some of the latest trends to enhance your door designs. She says, “One can consider painting their front door with bright shades to enhance the door, evoking a lively appearance. Select an exterior paint matching your door type; there are paints and primers available for steel, fiberglass and wood door surfaces. Always remember to contrast, and choose a bold paint colors like turquoise, classic red, orange, green, etc that stands out from the rest of the home. Use a metal door for an artisanal look which is contemporary as well as warm. With the ever-increasing trend of the industrial look, most homeowners are opting for copper, stainless steel and black steel doors. Another refreshing trend is the glass front door with glass side panels -- it ensures more light into the area and lessens the expenditure of buying a larger front door. For both home and offices, one must consider doors like sliding barn, glass, double sliding, traditional hinged, and lounge doors.”

A door is the first visual to any space; it helps to create statements and decide the vibe of the space inside. Over the years, slider doors are gaining popularity as they function like movable walls and are perfect in terms of functionality and aesthetics, informs décor expert Mugdha Bhagchandka, creative lead at Hèrmosa Design Studio. “Transparent and translucent slider doors add natural light into the area bringing out the colours of the space. Wooden doors are still reigning in the traditional and luxury market. With all the innovations happening wood has been altered with affordable pricing materials such as WPC- wood plastic composite, it makes doors look stylish and protects it from water, decay and UV rays. Glass doors are generally preferred for office spaces either double glass doors or single glass doors as it helps to maintain transparency. For homes one gets to choose from varied styles be it french, folding, double wooden, wrought iron, wine cellar, arch or cathedral, something for everyone’s aesthetic,” highlights Bhagchandka.

One can decorate the doors as per their décor theme of the area. There are numerous materials that one can be used; for example, wood, fiberglass, steel, aluminum, UPVC, vinyl, glass, iron, hollow core, etc. Interior designer Ekta Khialani, founder of Casa Novo, mentions that doors that merge into wall panels are massively trending today. She adds, “Doors that blend in with a room and vanish in the grand scheme of the walls are massively popular at the moment. Pure solid wood doors, solid wood mouldings and beautiful traditional detailing using modern wood choices are trending as well. The best way to make your home or office area door stand out by combining frosted glass with pure wood framing. Beautiful partition doors constructed out of metal and glass with varied finishes and colours are also a great option for the home or office area.”

“As a decorative material, one can even opt for beautiful and intricate oakwood designs that could be incorporated to make the door look stylish and unique. One should use materials like laminates that resemble pure wood and veneer on the inner sides of your bathroom doors for easy maintainable and longevity. Make it different from the rest of your home to demarcate the different usage of that specific area,” sums up Khialani.
