Lemons can help reduce skin spots

Try these home remedies for an even-toned skin.

With age, come several changes in our body and skin. From fine lines and wrinkles to saggy skin, there are a lot of natural things that happen. Age spots too, are a result of ageing. Also known as hyperpigmentation or melasma, they are characterised by dark spots on your skin. It usually affects people after they turn 40. There are various treatment options one can go for, from facials to cosmetic surgeries. But if home remedies are effective, then they help you save some bucks in addition to being less harsh on your skin. And, lemons have been used for various skin related problems for a very long time-

  • They are used for tan removal as well because they are rich in vitamin C.
  • They act as a natural antiseptic and prevent our skin from getting damaged.
  • In addition to this, they remove dead skin cells gently because of they are rich in citric acid.
  •  They make your skin tone look even and promote growth of healthy skin.

Thus, they also make for an excellent home remedy for treating dark spots, irrespective of your skin type. Here’s how you can use lemons to lighten age spots, as suggested by Livestrong:

Apple and lemon

Apples help you get evenly toned skin. They are rich in an antioxidant called phloretin, which prevent the formation of wrinkles. You can make a mask from apples and lemon. Take two tablespoons of lemon juice to one whole pureed apple. Apply this on your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water, and do this twice a week.

Green tea and lemon

You can make an excellent toner using two easily available ingredients: lemons and green tea. Take 1/4th cup fresh lemon juice, one cup of boiling hot water and a green tea bag. Add water to the lemon juice, and put in your tea bag. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. Take a cotton pad and gently apply this mixture in sweeping motion. Don’t rinse off after applying. You can use this twice a day.

Papaya and lemon

Papaya also contains vitamin C and helps in brightening your complexion. You can make a face mask using papaya as a base. Add 2 tablespoons lemon juice to mashed papaya pulp, along with two tablespoons of honey and 1/4th cup plain yogurt. Gently massage it all over your face. It’s quite gentle on your skin. Rinse off with lukewarm water. You can apply this mixture thrice a week.
