Imprisoned suspected drug dealer hasn't used loo for 34 days
Drug suspect who has broken Brit record for spending most days in custody without using lavatory is given another five days to do needful.
In a bizarre and funny case, a suspect who has broken the British record for spending the most days in custody without having a poo has been given another five days to do the deed.
The 24-year-old Lemarr Chambers has now spent 34 days behind bars while police wait for him to excrete drugs they believe he swallowed.
Arrested on January 17 on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and failing to stop for police, he has not had a bowel movement ever since.
Chambers appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Monday as police applied for yet another extension to keep him in custody.
It was the sixth such application that has been made, and officers were given permission to hold him in custody until Friday.
Magistrates were told that at times, Chambers has been refusing to eat but they were also given details of what he has been consuming from his cell.
Last week it was revealed that he had been eating Frosties cereal bars and, as time went on, he would eat up to eight of them a day.
However, he has since swapped his diet to one of fruit and vegetables.
When asked, Trish Macnair, from the Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology, said, “There's only so long you can hang on.”
Macnair also said that there is a small risk of the bowel swelling and bursting but in a young, healthy person, you'd expect the bowel to empty itself before that happened.
