Coffee is the elixir of life for many who find themselves struggling to wake in the mornings, and this US professor claims he has the recipe for a perfect cuppa' every morning.

Professor Chris Hendon, known as Dr Coffee said to the Sun that it puzzled him that he couldn't make a great tasting cup of coffee two days in a row, "My research looks at every variable that goes into making espresso coffee, from grinding and packing the ground coffee, to water pressure and mineral chemistry."

Hendon also said that if every single American café would use his techniques, then the US would save $300 million a year by reducing the amount of coffee beans used to make espresso, while improving reproducibility.

According to the Professor, fresh beans kept in a fridge and using hard water are the secrets to consistently good coffee, as long as it is not ground too fine.

Hard water gives the coffee stronger flavour as compared to soft water because it has  a high amount of magnesium and calcium.

Keeping the beans in the fridge helps keep the flavour of the beans intact, and grinding it too fine results in reduced extractions.

Well, now you have the perfect recipe to get you started.
