Afghanistan's Kim Kardashian defies extremism, performs on country's Independence Day
Born in Kabul and based out of London, Aryana Sayeed is often called Afghanistan's Kim Kardashian.
While Kim Kardashian has been in the limelight for quite sometime making news across the globe, a lookalike of the popular reality TV star is fighting a battle of her own in a very different part of the world. Aryana Sayeed, often referred to as Afghanistan’s Kim Kardashian is standing up to extremists in a country ravaged by religious fanaticism.
Her revealing clothes and selfies may have brought a lot of popularity for the pop star but it has also earned her the ire of ultra-conservative elements in the country as she also receives death threats from extremists. But that didn’t stop Aryana from defying norms in the war torn country as she performed on her country’s independence day in Kabul.
The 32-year-old hit back against extremism in style as she took to the stage in a glamorous green, black and red dress. Hundreds of Afghans turned up to see her at the Intercontinental Hotel under heavy security cover although the show was scheduled at the Ghazi Stadium from where it was moved since safety couldn’t be guaranteed.
Born in Kabul and based out of London, Aryana has faced opposition from religious conservative elements for her style of dressing and also because they don’t approve of women performing in public.
