Light wooden flooring can brighten up your home

Be it any season or any occasion, one element that never fails to impress décor lovers is classic wood. Adding different textures of wood to your abode gives both, drama and uniqueness with a touch of tranquility.

Combining the right colour and patterns accentuates the décor so use it to your advantage. Colours like camel, tan and beige work beautifully with light; while dark shades of wood, light blue tints with subtle grey undertones go well with medium-toned walnut hues. Similarly, grey and brown can be mixed and matched together as grey complements soft, blonde, weathered and distressed wood tones. Parul Mittal, director of Greenlam Industries Ltd. says, “Add hints of colourful elements such as turquoise blues with different wood tones, a hint of mustard with sterling grey or a striking black shade for a contrasting view. Metallic accents emphasise the beauty of wood furniture — rose gold, brass, copper are all perfect combinations for your wooden accessories.”

Play with different textures and colours to add depth to an interior space

Considering the growing trend of statement pieces, wooden stairs are quite popular this year. Dark wooden stairs leading up to the gallery or to your door are a subtle way to add a cheerful vibe to your house. With a backdrop of classic distressed veneers for your decor that will provide a natural look, pair an antique wall clock and metallic showpieces, add that vintage persona to your home. Dark engineered wood floors always add sophistication and stability to the décor of the room. Pair it with magnificent brass side tables to make the room look a little more diverse and alluring. Satinder Chawla, MD of Span Floors, suggests that wood being a natural material has an inherent warmth and sense of comfort. “Wooden floors give a timeless and classy elegance to any interior. If the interior is predominant with wooden accessories and furniture, choose a colour tone which complements the furniture to give a rich and classy appeal. A contrasting wood colour can help create an eclectic look of combined intelligently,” says Chawla.

A light patterned wooden floor

Lately, the industry has seen a surge of adding patterns and textures which give respite from monotonous and dull interiors. Creative patterns, eye-catching textures, accent pieces are not only easy to integrate but add an elegant look and feel to your home. The top three trends are herringbone, chevron and geometric patterns. “With autumn, it’s all about adding that subtle oomph but also maintaining a definite serenity in your house. The criss-cross chevron pattern on your floors with the Herringbone adds sophistication to your setting and really helps raise the luxe factor of your home. Whereas, geometric patterns create a subtle contrast and make the space incredibly modern and chic. Experiment these patterns with other elements of your space, such as a collage of rectangular and square frames with monochrome pictures and pairing it with hints of green plants would give your home a fresh and natural look. Chevron patterns on throw pillows, a coffee table with herringbone pattern or royal geometric patterned rugs are some ways to apply these trends to your house with minimal effort,” explains Mittal.
