Workshop to bring children to books
The latest is a reading club, especially for children from five to 15 years of age.
In today’s world of gadgets and social media, children are losing their interest in reading — a problem that makes city-based entrepreneur and mother of two Savneet Bhasin worried. To address the problem and to attract more and more children to the healthy habit of reading, Savneet has opened Springboard and informal space where she carries out several activities. The latest is a reading club, especially for children from five to 15 years of age. “At the reading club children can freely engage with books and stories,” says Savneet. Activities within the reading club will include reading to children, children-led reading, and discussions on stories, story-making and other such activities. “The children must also read to even enhance their grammar and vocabulary skill. Such activities in the city will help the children to learn the correct use of leisure time,” she says. The event, which opens next month, will be a weekly affair. According to her, “It’s important for children to upgrade their skills and such experiential class enhancement programmess could help them,”
However, the “core idea” the Mumbai University alumnus says is “to inspire imagination in the minds of children.”
Apart from the reading club, Springboard also holds workshops on creative writing, dining etiquette, public speaking and even DIY craft making.
