Meghan called Di 2 by royal household for similarities between her and Diana
Royal insider revealed the nickname is used affectionately for Duchess of Sussex.
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has been given the nickname 'Di 2' by members of the royal household because of the similarities between her and Diana, sources say according to MailOnline.
A royal insider has revealed that the nickname is used ‘affectionately’ for Meghan as she is quite similar to her late mother-in-law.
It comes after Meghan, 37, has paid tribute to Prince Harry's late mother by wearing pieces from her jewellery collection during her first major royal tour.
The Duchess wore Diana's aquamarine ring - which she also wore at her wedding reception - at an evening reception in Tonga on Thursday.
Meghan also wore a pair of butterfly earrings and gold bracelet that belonged to Diana on her first day in Sydney last week.
MailOnline quoted a source who in conversation with Vanity Fair revealed, “I've heard the duchess is referred to as Di 2, because of the similarities to Harry's mother. It's meant affectionately, and I think it's quite true - they are rather alike.”
Notably, veteran royal photographer a Mark Stewart too has shared his insights on how he has noticed similarities between Meghan and the Diana during the tour.
“Meghan has the confidence in front of the camera that Diana had, and that same love of fashion and top-end designers”, he told the publication, adding that Diana loved Versace and Meghan loves Givenchy while their style is quite similar: classic, elegant, and with lots of block colors.
The revelation comes after royal watchers noticed the similarity between Meghan's striped linen dress and Diana's famous semi-sheer skirt that she wore during the 1980s.
The Duchess opted for a maxi dress with a thigh high split from LA brand Reformation priced at $305.91 (£166.56, which many commentators dubbed her 'most daring' ensemble yet.
Diana wore a white lace skirt that revealed her legs underneath as she was photographed with two children at the nursery she worked at in 1980.
