Woman asked to leave eatery for calling out leering man
Vijaya Das was shocked when the manager asked her and the family to leave instead of taking action against the man.
Kolkata: The security of women against eve teasing and harassment has always been a cause of concern in India, but a more saddening reality is that of victim shaming in our society, where women have to suffer for hitting out against sexism.
The entire world was busy celebrating Christmas in their own ways with friends or family on 25th December, but for Vijaya Das, a visit to her favourite dhaba for the festive mood turned into a nightmare, as she was asked to leave just because she raised alarm over a man leering at her.
In what comes as another shocking incident at a Kolkata restaurant after one eatery denied entry to a driver, the 26-year-old wrote in her Facebook post that she noticed a shady man looking at her in the creepiest way possible and although she ignored him at first, she shouted at him when she he continued.
While Das’s father supported her, the man refused to accept his mistake. But the shock came when the restaurant’s manager came up to Vijaya Das and her family, asking them to leave immediately.
The post reflects how harassment against women continues because the society chooses to look the other way and passively support it.
