Dressing up pets in cute little costumes is all the rage among pet owners now. Ranging from bling on collars to matching mittens, shoes, clothes, and hats, pets have a huge collection of fashionable clothing in the market today. Here are some the do's and don'ts when it comes to dressing them up.

Make sure your pet is comfortable: The most important rule of pet fashion is comfort.  Pet clothing should not  be tight and it should be made from fabrics that don’t chafe. Anything that impedes the pet’s ability to walk or see is not advisable.

Start early: Get your pet used to the idea of costumes at a very young age. Never force these on the pet at one go. Take time to get your pet used to the clothing and its smell by simply laying it on it’s back.

Never leave your pet alone in costume: See to it that your pet is not left unattended. There are chances it might try to get out of the outfit and get stuck, leading to suffocation.

Keep water nearby: While in a costume, the pet is at a risk of dehydration. Keep a water bowl nearby and make sure it can get to the bowl before it starts to pant.

Embrace hair cuts: It is good to keep your pet’s hair trimmed during the summer. However, shaving off your pet’s coat might turn out to be harmful.

Watch out for signs of stress: If it’s clear that your pup is uncomfortable, take the clothes off or switch to something simpler. Don’t stress your pet by over doing it too soon.
