Los Angeles: Individuals of all ages want sexual satisfaction in life through various means of being better in bed. Sexperts globally have people asking for advise and sites like pornhub now offer sexual health education as well. But nothing can replace a personal touch, which is why the absence of a close confidant to help out in complicated situations can leave one vulnerable to misconceptions.

When someone is in a profession offering sexual satisfaction, paid sex is something which comes to mind, except it isn’t necessarily the case. Valerie Baber is 36 and works as an intimacy coach and a professional wing-woman, and this means that she helps people get a fulfilling sex life, but doesn’t offer sex.

Valerie’s clientele includes graduates from Ivy League institutions, start-up founders and 50-year-old virgins, as she helps them become more confident in their sexuality through counselling sessions where she often acts as the wing-woman and even mock dates. She has had Ivy League graduates who had a perfect life except for romantic endeavours and married people who were worried if their lives had scope for hot sex.

The 50-year-old virgins she encountered were highly creative people who were blank when it came to writing a dating profile, and she met fetishists of all ages who felt ostracised and misunderstood due to their preferences in bed. Valerie described being perceptive, adventurous and caring as the most important traits required for her profession.

Valerie says that being an intimacy coach is not just about psychotherapy, but it requires a person to be a hybrid of scientist and cheerleader. She also makes it clear to her clients that she doesn’t give sexual services and that what they get is a long term investment for their life.

She says that everyone needs an outlet for their feelings and while the idea of talking about intimate issues with a stranger may seem strange, the willingness to be a good listener makes people open up naturally.
