A US federal appeals court refused to hold Grindr liable to a New York man who said his former boyfriend used the gay dating app to post fake profiles, in a harassment campaign that caused more than 1,000 men to approach the victim for sex.

Social media and online dating may have come as good news for most people willing to meet new partners and get action more often. But not everyone is necessarily pleased with the availability of platforms which makes sex more accessible.

Sexual health services in Britain are facing a record number of visits by millions of people. This development has come amid concerns that online dating apps like Tinder and Grindr are causing a rise in sexual activity.

While HIV screenings have gone up, the problem is compounded since people don’t keep in touch with people they met online.
