Cuban couples may soon get sex rooms sponsored by the state

Several unmarried couples in India might be able to understand the hassle of checking into hotel rooms or find a private space to share their intimate moments. From harassment by moral police or being apprehended by authorities at a hotel, there are several things that keep couples on their toes.

But in another part of the world the state itself is giving young people a reason to rejoice as aroused couples can now use government sponsored rooms to have sex or get intimate with privacy. The move comes as the Cuban government seeks to revive the tradition of ‘love motels’ in the country.

The establishment known as Posadas were very popular for much of the 20th century, but the number of these motels declined due to economic concerns. The remaining Posadas were converted into shelters for hurricane victims later.

Currently a two story hotel with 16 rooms and bathrooms is set to be started by the state designated body to manage love motels, and there are already plans for further expansion. Privately owned Posadas charge high amounts and pricing will be a concern for the state run motels.

The first of such motels opened up in Cuba’s capital Havana in the 19th century, which was a bog step forward for couples in a predominantly Roman Catholic society.
