Mumbai: We do notice on a daily basis how technology has changed pretty much everything around us over the last century and has offered more convenience and pleasure with every upgrade. One of the areas that have evolved massively is sexual wellness, both in terms of its growing acceptability as well as its development.

Sexual health is no longer considered taboo in most parts of the world and has been able to fight the myths that surrounded it for the most part of hundreds of years. One of the most fundamental changes has been the interpretation of pleasure for women – from being seen as a blasphemy to being considered essential for a healthy sexual relationship.

Lovetreats.in plays a crucial role in changing the thought process of the people. In the process, we have studied enough about female pleasure and how it has been defined and achieved over the past hundred years.

Although most people today, would like to believe that self-pleasure is a recent concept that emerged, it is an old age topic that has been well-spoken about. Even a hundred years ago, there existed devices which were not that comfortable and were created to satisfy a woman’s sexual need.

In contemporary times, things have upgraded and there are various models available in different forms, materials and shapes to provide a better experience that is easy-to-use yet quite pleasurable.

During the 1900s, the Macaura’s Pulsocon Hand Vibrator was the invention that took the generation by storm. Although it looked like a torture device, it had a manual crank handle that could deliver 5000 vibrations per minute. It was created mainly to alleviate ‘hysteria’ in women, which technically meant sexual frustration.

This hand vibrator was further worked upon and then had additional features like control on the number and speed of vibrations. Towards the 1920’s using electricity, there came the Electric Vibrator, which thankfully eliminated the need for manual effort. It was still considered a beautiful device which was used as a massager. After this came the Heat Massager, this offered a combination of heat and vibrations. Around the 1940s, there was Vibra-tone which was believed to help in weight loss and the Stim-U-Lax for barbers which delivered powerful sensations if strapped to the hand. It was meant for barbers to use on customer’s head but it was put to other covert uses.

It was only during the 1970s when ‘massagers’ were openly discussed to be sex toys. Post that, the Japanese created the iconic ‘The Rabbit’, which became immensely popular and was used in the film Sex and the City. It was also the only device created till then which offered the real deal, penetration and stimulation.

This was the invention that changed the industry and gave it the start of what it is today. Since then, this has been upgraded and worked on – it has moved from hard material to silicone and has additional features being added every day.

From an Electric Vibrator in the 1920s that looked like a machine mechanism would use, to a smaller, sexier and more elegant silicone device that feels like skin and is operated by remote control, the shift has been significant. In India, Lovetreats.in, for instance, has made sex toys easily accessible and available to everyone. There is clearly a demand and the sales of toys indicate the premium that couples are putting on women’s pleasure.

As someone who has researched the evolution of female pleasure and dynamics, I believe that this conversation is only going to grow.
