A temple like no other

Kerala, which is popular worldwide for its natural beauty, is equally famous for its temples as well. Sabarimala, Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Vadakkumnatha Temple, Ettumanoor; the list goes on and on. However, all these temples are famous for the deities that attract believers from across the world. Standing out from the crowd is Ammachiveedu Muhurthi — a small temple in Kollam. It does not have a main deity and is dedicated to the guru of Dharmasastra of the Sasthamkotta temple. The temple that is believed to be older than over 100 years was built and is maintained by the Ammachiveedu family.

Along with the sub-deities like Raktha Chamundi, Ganapathy, Marutha and others, one of the main deities here is ‘Ginnu’ — a supernatural creature according to Muslim mythology. Therefore, the temple is also visited by many Muslim devotees. This is also the main reason why the temple is open to devotees of any caste.
